Connect Stripe to Majordome

Communities that sell their membership with Stripe can let Majordome open and close each member’s access from their subscription. The connection is read-only.

What the connection does

Majordome is a relationship assistant for communities. Once your Stripe account is connected and you have chosen the products that grant access, Majordome keeps each member’s access in step with their subscription, without a list to keep by hand:

  • Access is open while the member has an active or trialing subscription to one of those products.
  • Access is paused as soon as the subscription is past_due, unpaid, canceled, paused or incomplete_expired. A failed payment pauses access right away, from the first failed attempt.
  • Administrators of the community are never paused by Stripe.
  • A subscription is matched to a member by the customer’s e-mail address. For a subscription paid by someone else, such as a gift, set the majordome_email metadata on the subscription to the member’s address.

Majordome never writes to your Stripe account. It cannot charge, refund or edit anything, and it never sees card data.

Before you start

  • You are an administrator of your community on Majordome. The console is in French; the labels below are quoted as they appear on screen.
  • You can install apps on the Stripe account that sells your memberships.

Connect Stripe

  1. Sign in to the Majordome console at back.getmajordome.com.
  2. Open your community, then « Paramètres » (Settings).
  3. On the « Stripe » card, click « Connecter Stripe » (Connect Stripe).
  4. Stripe shows the permissions listed below. Choose the account that sells your memberships and accept.
  5. Stripe brings you back to the same card. Pick the products whose subscription grants access to the community, then click « Enregistrer » (Save).

If you installed Majordome from the Stripe App Marketplace, finish the connection the same way: sign in to the console and use the « Stripe » card of your community, so Majordome knows which community the account belongs to.

What Majordome reads

  • Customers: to match each subscription to the member it belongs to.
  • Subscriptions: to read each subscription’s status, which decides whether the member’s access is open or paused.
  • Products and prices: so you can choose which ones grant access.
  • Subscription events: to update access as soon as a subscription changes.

Disconnect

On the « Stripe » card of your community, click « Déconnecter » (Disconnect). You can also uninstall Majordome from your Stripe Dashboard, in Settings, under Installed apps. Either way Majordome stops reading your account and Stripe no longer decides access: members whose access Stripe had paused are let back in.
